they got to my cell!
I just got a call on my cell phone from a telemarketer. Now forget the fact that I'm not a huge fan of phones anyway, because now that I'm a pastor it's less of an option to just ignore calls from numbers I don't know. But this was a recorded message saying "This is the second call warning you that the factory warranty on your vehicle may have expired! If this is the case, it is very dangerous to drive without an extended warranty! Blah blah blah..."
The voice wasn't bullying, but it was very ominous sounding, and I hate to think of all the single moms or elderly and whatnot who will get scared by this message and get suckered into buying a terrible "warranty" at an exorbitant price.
First of all, I drive a '97 Honda and a '98 Ford. Hmmm, has my factory warranty expired? YOU THINK?!?!
Secondly, I sit here with stained hands because just this morning I finished up replacing the rear brakes and calipers on my car. I've pulled transmissions, brakes, axles, heads. The price I paid for any of that was far far less than what I'd spend for any "warranty". I AM MY OWN WARRANTY, and you could be too. I know that not everyone is super handy with a wrench, but things like fluid changes and brakes are simple (especially disk brakes - 10 minutes tops). To any of my friends who read this and you need someone to talk you through something, please get up with me. Or waste hundreds on a mechanic for basic stuff, it's up to you.
I understand that the people who actually place telemarketing calls are people like myself who are just trying to pay the bills, but I believe I'd go back to bagging groceries before I could be a telemarketer. At least then you get to enjoy some conversation.
