the helicopter game

Click here if you've got some spare time, but be warned, you'll get sucked in. I haven't played it much and my high score is 874, but a buddy of mine got a 3391. Play it and you'll understand why that seem impossible.

you knew this was coming...

Charlie knows it, there's no way I can just fail to mention what happened last night in New Orleans. He knows that I've been a fan long before it was the cool thing to do(22 years now, ever since I was old enough to care). 23-3? Atlanta got manhandled last night! I do like the Falcons, but only as long as they're not playing the Saints. So now that people are paying attention, better keep a close eye on the next 2 weeks as we face Carolina and then Tampa Bay. I've never been to an NFL game, but November 26 might be a good first, any of my GA friends interested?

doggy dilemma

Still trying to figure out what to do about the dogs. We've got the black and white one still and it's time to either adopt or deport. She's sweet but very skittish, a trait that I don't care for at all. Makes me nervous that someday she'll bite the kids. There's one more from her litter still at the shelter, a big chocolate. They're mixed between American Bulldog and Lab. The pups came in 2 sizes, I picked a small one who will probably have the lab size. The chocolate dog is huge already and will take the bulldog size, which I like. I'm going to check him out today and see what his personality is like.

Oh but it gets deeper. A friend came to see me at my office this morning with a white english bulldog puppy that he's trying to get rid of. About 4 months old and beautiful, looks to be full blooded, great personality. He found the dog sitting in the middle of a road in the middle of the night in the middle of a rain storm out in the middle of nowhere.

What to do, what to do.

i'm a hero

That's what they told me as I got up from giving blood a little bit ago. It used to not bother me, stick a needle in both arms if you'd like. But now I'm always a bit nervous about giving. I've had some people dig around like they're knitting in my arm and my vein is the yarn. Today was a delightful experience and they also gave me a t-shirt and cd holder that goes on my visor. I don't have a cd player in the Jeep, but it's cool anyway. I haven't gotten a t-shirt in a long time, so it was quite a surprise. Plus the blood drive was at our church and some older ladies always bake all kinds of stuff to eat after you're done so it's a whole lot better than the stale cookie or pack of crackers that you usually get.

I've never had any trouble with getting light headed or anything, but today the guy in the chair next to me did. He stood up and was talking to his wife, everything looked good. Then he got this strange look on his face, his knees locked, and he started leaning. I had a needle in my arm so I was useless, but his wife grabbed his arm to try to steady him. With the look he had I thought he might be joking at first, then he headed for the tile. His wife said "He's going down!" and he casually said "Who's going down?" I couldn't help it, I laughed.

water bridge over water

Even after you see it, it is still hard to believe, but Snopes says it's true.

Six years, 500 million euros, 918 meters long. This is engineering!

This is a channel-bridge over the River Elbe and joins the former East and West Germany as part of the unification project. It is located in the city of Magdeburg, near Berlin. The photo was taken on the day of inauguration.

To those who appreciate engineering projects, here's a puzzle for you. Did that bridge have to be designed to withstand the additional weight of ship and barge traffic, or just the weight of the water?

Answer:
It only needs to be designed to withstand the weight of the water!
Why? A ship always displaces an amount of water that weighs the same as the ship, regardless of how heavily a ship may be loaded.

teacher arrested

At New York's Kennedy airport today, and individual later discovered to be a public school teacher was arrested trying to board flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a setsquare, a slide rule, and a calculator. At a morning press conference, Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez said he believes the man is a member of the notorious al-Gebra movement. He is being charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of math instruction.

"Al-Gebra is a fearsome cult," Gonzalez said. "They desire average solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in a search of absolute value. They use secret code names like 'x' and 'y' and refer to themselves as 'unknowns', but we have determined they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country. As the Greek philanderer Isosceles used to say, 'There are 3 sides to every triangle'."

When asked to comment on the arrest, President Bush said, "If God had wanted us to have better weapons of math instruction, He would have given us more fingers and toes".

thanks to our japanese brethren

My father-in-law(not Japanese) introduced me to Sudoku last weekend. It's a neat little puzzle that can eat lots of your time away if you're not careful. Being the friend I am I thought I'd share a website with you that lets you play for free. Not only that, but this particular site has a cool way to "pencil in" possible numbers so that you can figure out just which one you need.

in an unprecedented move...

I've allowed someone to jump the ranks in my links. You know me, I don't believe in alphabetizing my links, it's first come-first served. But I was adding and deleting some links, I played favorites, and JBB made a huge leap toward the top.

Also welcome David to the blogging scene over at Trail of What or Indian Stories by a White Man, I'm not sure what to call it for sure. Funny how I'm writing this as if I've still got a lot of readers. I think I'm down to 4 and 2 of them already know David(since he's one of them). I kind of like it that way, takes the pressure off and makes it feel like I originally wanted...just an open conversation with my friends.

This sign is really up right now on a church in Panama City. If I wasn't in a hurry to get to Crestview last weekend I would have stopped and snapped a pic. There was one in Crestview that I'm going to put up soon that you won't believe.

oh glorious morning

I got my laptop back last night so today has been spent getting my stuff all set up again. I pushed the power button and where as it used to take several minutes for everything to power up and settle down, it only took about 20 seconds. I don't know if it's just because I bought an upgraded hard drive or because everything is just cleaned up and fresh but I like it. My friend who fixed it was able to recover everything from my old one and he also added some new stuff so I'm very excited. The only bad thing is that I had to reinstall Firefox so I lost all my old links, and I had a ton. Send me your good links, there's no way I'll remember all of mine.

highschool part 2

I've got to take a very basic computer class out at our local junior college every Tuesday night from 6:30-9:15. Last night I was 5 minutes late because I was in a meeting, got there and realized I forgot my book so I ended up being 20 minutes late. Didn't matter at all. We had a homework assignment that took me maybe 30 minutes. Only 1 other person had theirs done so the teacher let everyone else do it during class time. Almost 2 hours later everyone else was still working and I was goofing off on the internet. Hooray for a serious college education.

i know you all miss me

But hey, what's a guy to do when his hard drive crashes? 2 options, buy a new hard drive for around $80, or buy a new lappy for $1500. I want option #2 but I don't know if it's going to pass the powers that be.

Oh and Ryan, you were right, I've got your Warefare Weekend book. What's it worth to you again?
